Warning signs of a Bad Air Conditioner

The air conditioning system plays a critical role in any vehicle. It keeps you comfortable as you drive in hot weather. Often you may have issues with your air-con system, and these can stop it from functioning. If you spot such an issue, call a professional immediately, and have them examine your ride. Nevertheless, there are various warning signs to look out for, which help avoid further damage to your vehicle.

How do car air conditioners work?

Car air conditioners run on high-pressure gas known as a refrigerant. The AC features a significant component known as an evaporator. It draws heat from the air and pushes it to the refrigerant. This results in cool air in the car.

If you fail to maintain your cooling system, you may experience an issue with the cooling system. However, your car engine may also overheat if you have a cracked radiator. If this happens, engage a professional to make a proper diagnosis and offer the necessary radiator repair services.

What are the warning signs of a faulty air conditioner?

There era several components to check when your air conditioner isn’t functioning. This will determine whether to contact a technician and can save you a lot. These include;

1. Strange noises from the compressor

If you hear unusual noises after turning off your air conditioner, you may be having a faulty compressor. Your system comprises various components which are inter-connected. All have distinct functions. If one breaks or stops functioning, you expect grinding sounds from your unit.

2. Leaking& Water stains

Another sign of a faulty AC unit is fluid leaks. This can result from worn out bearing, and malfunctioning of the compressor may also cause leaks. Like a home HVAC, your car’s air conditioner can collect condensation, and the water drains underneath your vehicle.

3. High cabin temperatures

When your vehicle can’t blow in cool air, your compressor might be faulty. Check it to resolve the hot air issue or hire a professional to help diagnose the problem.

4. Suck Ac compressor clutch

The Ac compressor clutch connects to a pulley which later connects to the engine. When the clutch is broken or faulty, it won’t transfer power from the engine to the compressor. This then results in failure and malfunction. If you notice such an issue, have the clutch repaired by an expert or replaced. And this will restore the function of the compressor.

5. Bad smells

Your car’s air-con can trap moisture leading to mold and bacteria growth. If you smell damp or musty smells when your Ac is on, turn it off and seek help. Breathing in mold spores can adversely affect your health, and you should fix the issue promptly.

6. Low pressure

Your vehicle’s AC depends on a refrigerant to drive heat away. In case of leaks, the refrigerant escapes, and this causes low pressure. This way, you’ll notice low cooling power and spot greasy films of the refrigerant on the air conditioner. To resolve the issue, have a mechanic test the system to confirm this.

Conclusion

It’s crucial to maintain your air conditioner in excellent condition. If you notice the above danger signs, contact a technician immediately. They will resolve the issue without causing further damages to your car.
